FemmeFatale and GlindaDesign both look a lot like my ex-girlfriend. Are you dating a girl named Erika? Her rib cage is kinda big for a chick don't you think? But sexy in a unique way.
Any way great stuff. JujuQueen is freeeaky!

Impressive

i dont know how much a crit from a amateur means but here goes. YOu style and subjects look inspired but original. I like colors and full bodies would allow for a better render of your skill. i liked the show more plz.

thanks for the comments.

I'm married to a woman named Zoe so no need to worry about ex-girlfriends!

Good catch about the rib cage, I've noticed that is a persistent problem in my female characters, even happens when I try and sculpt. I was talking about that very thing in a class recently, something I need to keep an eye on in the future.

Hopeto post more soon!! I'm digging all the great work in everyone's sketch books. I'm starting to feel pretty good about my drawings but I realize I have a long way to go. Posting them helps me to see them in a different light, sometimes thats good, usually its humbling .

some sketches from photographs. Not the best way to practice but you do what you gotta do.

Really nice values you have in here. Your really understanding how to work with darks and lights and everything in between. A lot of people stuggle with this. One suggestion would be is to create a focal point(I'm not saying your not doing this, I just want you to think about it when you draw/paint). Where do you want to draw the viewers eye. Remember, as artist we still want to control where we want the viewers eyes to travel in a composition. keep up the good work.

good advice! looking over these sketches i see what you mean. I haven't made a concopus effort to direct the viewer's attention to any particluar part of the composition. I will keep it in mind for my next sketches.

sketches from Insomania

Here are some sketches I made at the insomania event in San Francisco. These aren't super great or anything but they do sort of represent where my head was at during the event. Some good stuff, some not so good stuff, some ideas on where I need to go from here.

sketches on the planes. Trying to get away from overly rendered images. Also working on profiles...The Right Profile...

My femme fatale drawing (the first one in this sketchbook) has been immortalized in Clay on the lates John Brown Sculpture DVD from Gnomon:

http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com/dvds/scu06.html

Actually he asked me to draw it for him in the first place. Its a great DVD, he does comparisons with a live nude model. Great lecture for sculptors and illustrators alike. There's some goofy footage of me drawing the figure at the beginning of the DVD. I think his finished sculpture is a lot better than my sketch, but he has 15 years in the industry on me...

Here are some images form the DVD (grabbed from the gnomon website):

first post in a long while

I haven't posted in a long while because I've been working a lot. but here are some experiments/doodles I did in Painter while watching over various renders at work. I've been using these to develop a more organic painting style. These all start as photos of random textures, I thne paint over them and tweak until it looks kinda cool or I get sick of looking at them.

Close ups of this study:

My Favorite:

My next step is to take some of the techniques I used in creating these images and apply them to characters. I have a 3D animation on my website based on this style as well (www.bloopatone.com)

Thanks for listening, comments are welcome. I'll try and post some WIPs in the future.

Been a while, here are some sketches done on the airplane from photographs:

Also, my New Year's Resolution for 08 is to draw a skull every day. I'll post a few here.

Old stuff...

These are a year old but I thought I would post them just to add them to my sketchbook. I've been using IMG tags for a year, I guess I need to go back and upload all of these images!! maybe later...

Dude your sketchbook is kind of creepy..
But I love the organic paintings. It's different and coool.
Perhaps you can combine figures and the organics..?
Like a mega organic biofigure?

Cheers,

Frans

Thanks fo rthe comments! I am headed in the direction of combining the techniques. I did do this digital painting for a class at with Puddnhead which kind of started me off with some ideas. This is a year or so old as well....
